The second solo album under his own name...
Matt Berninger will be releasing a new solo album titled ‘Get Sunk’ later this year.
The frontman of The National is recognized for his songwriting, lyricism, and performance skills, making his solo debut in 2020 with ‘Serpentine Prison,’ produced by Booker T Jones.
It appears that the American artist is eager to once again pursue his solo career, as he prepares a new album under his own name.
Slated for release on May 30th, ‘Get Sunk’ was inspired by a period of writer’s block brought on by the pandemic. In 2020, he experienced “a long stretch of writer’s block and self-loathing. I became tired of asking myself, ‘Why am I like this?’”
Evolving from this experience, the songs on his upcoming album stem from a deep interest in the human experience. “Our hearts are like old wells filled with pennies and worms,” he shares. “I can’t help but dive down to the bottom of mine to see what else lies there. But at times, you can end up feeling trapped.”
Set to be released this Spring, the new album features two notable collaborations: ‘Breaking Into Acting’ (featuring Hand Habits) and ‘Silver Jeep’ (featuring Ronboy).
Currently available for pre-order via Book/Concord Records, the album was developed with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sean O’Brien, who also co-wrote many of the tracks.
The new single ‘Bonnet Of Pins’ has been released, showcasing dark humor illuminated by Matt Berninger’s writing – “Nabokov cocktails,” anyone? – along with his introspective delivery.
