Scottish singer-songwriter Jacob Alon has revealed that his debut album, ‘In Limerence’, will be released on 30th May through Island/EMI. To celebrate this announcement, he has unveiled a heartfelt new single titled ‘Don’t Fall Asleep’. The album, recorded in London with renowned producer Dan Carey, will include all of Jacob’s previously released songs—‘Fairy In A Bottle’, ‘Confession’, and ‘Liquid Gold 25’—and, judging by these tracks, it is set to be a complex, profoundly beautiful collection of captivating, folk-inspired storytelling.
Speaking about the poignant inspiration behind ‘Don’t Fall Asleep’, Jacob shared: “This song, to me, drifts over the turbulent surface of a dream-filled sea, struggling against its rough tide, resisting the gentle pull down into an endless depth. It revolves around the story of my cousin who sadly drowned in an accident before my birth.
“I never had the chance to know him, but I've formed an image of him in my mind through the memories and tales told by my family. Thus, I've always had a sort of fictional relationship with him. The song unfolds in the in-between space of realities, told from his imagined perspective.”
“He left behind a son he never got to know—tracing cycles of life and death. A life given birth on the other side of that fragile balance separating two worlds. Of loss and gain, and the love and pain that connect them. It reflects times in my life when living and loving felt more like an active choice and commitment, rather than something given. Like treading water. Like contemplating breathing. It’s about choosing to continue believing in the real world and resisting the alluring call of dreams—the quiet death.”
“In a curious coincidence, as I was composing this song, I received a message from my cousin’s brother, who recounted how he and my cousin would choose a record each night to drift off to sleep. This felt like a deeply meaningful coincidence. This brother is one of the few musicians in my family, and he shared an ambient album he created in memory of his late brother, intended for listening while falling asleep.”
