Lauren Mayberry has teamed up with IDLES’ frontman Joe Talbot for a reimagined take on ‘Sorry, Etc’—a collaboration that wasn't expected but works remarkably well. Taken from the CHRVCHES vocalist’s debut solo album ‘Vicious Creature,’ which DIY described as “a sonic origin story that’s been well worth the wait,” the original ‘Sorry, Etc’ was already an energetic, punk-influenced track. With the addition of powerful percussion and Joe’s intense vocals, it has transformed into a boldly angry anthem (aptly titled ‘Sorry, Etc, Etc’). “If you know me, you know how much I love Idles, so it’s truly an honor to reinterpret this song with Joe,” the former DIY cover star shared, detailing the genesis of their collaboration. “We initially connected during Covid when I participated in his Balley TV YouTube series and have since quietly supported each other from the sidelines. I reached out to Joe last summer about collaborating, and this was the song we chose. We recorded his vocals in December at Brighton Electric while Idles had a night off on tour. I re-recorded my (screamier) vocals at home with Sam Stewart before Christmas, and it was produced by my friend Paul Gallagher.” Joe, for his part, expressed: “It’s an honor and a joy to finally work with Lauren. I love the album and I’m thrilled to be a part of it. Fuck the king, she’s the king x.” Take a listen to ‘Sorry, Etc, Etc’ (featuring Joe Talbot) and revisit our cover interview with Lauren below.
