It is set to be released on May 23rd...
A posthumous album by Cola Boyy will come out later this year.
The “disabled disco innovator,” whose real name was Matthew Urango, passed away just over a year ago, leading to a surge of tributes. It turns out that Cola Boyy was actively working until the end, having approved the final mix of this new album before his passing.
Entitled ‘Quit To Play Chess,’ this posthumous release from Cola Boyy will be available on May 23rd and can be pre-ordered now.
A message from the artist’s family states…
"To lose a brother and a son creates an extensive void within us that will never be filled. Yet, there is music in that void. We are fortunate to still have his voice. His music is unlike anything else, stemming from a kid born in the cosmos. It comforts us to know that our Cola Boyy still has many more audiences to reach with his distinctive style and political beliefs. ‘Quit to Play Chess’ is a remarkable work, energizing our home and community, and if you play it loudly and get lost in it, you might just feel his presence with you..."
The new single ‘Babylon’ is available now—an exquisite piece of quirky electro-pop, infused with the sense of curiosity and innovation that endeared Cola Boyy to many.
Joey Frank has created a new video for the single, and the filmmaker commented...
"The video premieres a year after Cola Boyy’s heartbreaking and accidental passing. The choreography, location, props, and actress have been compiled from a text exchange between director Joey Frank and Cola in the weeks and days leading up to the shock of his death. We filmed the video in Oxnard on Valentine’s Day as a tribute to Cola Boyy on what would have been his 35th birthday."
Tune in now.
