In general, there are a few key components to the formula for exceptional pop-rock: relatable and easily digestible lyrics that are pleasingly simple; recognizable musical influences; and a charismatic, unique frontperson leading the performance. For Welly, an emerging artist from Southampton via Brighton, he scores a perfect three out of three. Over the past year, he has been showcasing his playful sound throughout England, supported by his loyal band of fellow spirited performers. The titular vocalist of this project has wholeheartedly embraced this musical path, presenting a debut album that is both ironic and immediately catchy.

Beneath this seemingly endless array of clever lyrics lies a blend of new wave energy and Britpop swagger; while the influences of Welly’s predecessors are apparent, this work stands as a sophisticated pastiche—self-aware, enjoyable, clever, and humorous. Spanning 14 tracks, ‘Big In The Suburbs’ might lose a bit of momentum towards the end, but it’s undeniable that on this debut album, Welly truly makes an impact.
He has also revealed an extensive schedule of tour dates for 2025 throughout the UK, Europe, and North America.

Many international names will be traveling to the Swiss town of Nyon this July.
It’s undeniable that on this debut album, Welly truly goes all out.
