Irish talent CMAT is set to release her new album ‘Euro-Country’ on August 29th.
The singer's impressive 2023 album ‘Crazymad, For Me’ marked a significant breakthrough, as she resonated with audiences in Ireland and gained traction in the UK, Europe, and North America, building on the strength of her debut.
Last year, she released a standalone single titled ‘Aw, Shoot!’ and delivered a number of outstanding performances at various festivals.
Now back in the studio, CMAT's upcoming album ‘Euro-Country’ will be released on August 29th. Co-produced with her long-time collaborator Oli Deakin, CMAT describes it as “the best thing I have ever made.” She felt that halfway through the recording, it became the most significant project for her personally, commenting, "mainly because it was driving me a bit crazy."
“I’m always going to create the work I want to create because there’s a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s bad. More than seeking success, there’s a greater gremlin that pushes me to produce really good music. She can be harsh and has sometimes complicated my life, but she is the guardian of my creativity and is always correct.”
The album is available for pre-order now, and CMAT will be touring this summer, including a performance at Glastonbury.
Her new single ‘Running / Planning’ has just been released, serving as an introduction to the album. CMAT shares that…
‘Running/Planning’ reflects the struggle of having to keep up in order to feel worthy of existence. It offers an abstract perspective on societal expectations placed on women, particularly in the context of relationships: You start seeing someone, get engaged, marry, have kids… everything is expected to follow this sequential order. (This is why the chorus is so repetitive!). As soon as you deviate from that route, you start receiving criticism, especially from your mother. This rigid path everyone is expected to follow can become incredibly overwhelming once you step outside it. I don’t know anyone who says, ‘Yeah, I love this!’
