Strut Safe, Viagogo, and Uber Collaborate to Ensure Gig-Goers Return Home Safely

Recent research from the ticketing platform viagogo has revealed that more than a quarter of women in the UK (27%) would like to attend concerts alone if they felt safer traveling home, indicating that late-night travel after gigs has become a significant obstacle for fans.

With almost a third (31%) of the UK population planning to enjoy more live events this year, alongside an impressive lineup of summer performances, Strut Safe, viagogo, and Uber have joined forces to enhance the safety of fans when commuting to and from concerts.

Strut Safe, a volunteer-operated support line providing comfort and companionship for individuals traveling home alone, has reported a 28% increase in calls over the past year. Most of these calls occur after 11 PM on weekends, a crucial time for concert attendees.

This increase aligns with fresh research indicating that personal safety continues to be a major concern. Findings reveal that the primary fear for Britons returning home alone from concerts is walking by themselves (35%), particularly impacting women (41%) and LGBTQIA+ individuals (37%).

      Other significant travel apprehensions include:

      - Traveling on public transport alone at night (28%)

      - Waiting alone at transport stations (like bus depots or train platforms) (27%)

      - Experiencing poor phone signal (22%)

      - Being alone in venue parking lots (21%)

Despite these worries, nearly half of women (47%) report having encountered situations where they would have utilized a support line or safety tool but chose not to. Many individuals are reluctant to seek help – even when they feel unsafe – due to concerns about disturbing loved ones (18%), causing undue stress (16%), or facing judgment (12%).

This reluctance is even more prominent among Gen-Z individuals (ages 18-24), with nearly a third (31%) stating they would hesitate before asking for help. However, almost half (47%) express a willingness to save Strut Safe’s contact number for future outings.

To combat the stigma of requesting help, Strut Safe has partnered with viagogo and Uber. Since 40% of women and 35% of LGBTQIA+ individuals are unaware of the support line, the initiative aims to boost awareness of Strut Safe’s phone number, 0333 335 0026, and encourage all concertgoers to reach out when in need of reassurance on their way home alone.

Additionally, to enhance accessibility to live events, viagogo and Uber are providing a £10 Uber discount starting Friday, 4th April 2025, during late-night hours (8 PM – 6 AM) to help fans feel more comfortable when traveling alone.
