L Mayland, also known as Lizzie Mayland from The Last Dinner Party, has revealed plans to launch a solo EP titled ‘The Slow Fire Of Sleep’ on May 9. This announcement comes with the debut of a new single, ‘Lighthouse’, which addresses the bittersweet anxiety that can accompany times when life is going well. “’Lighthouse’ explores my experience of being in a healthy romantic relationship for the first time and the fear of losing it,” Mayland explains about the single. In addition to her solo work, Mayland plays guitar in the acclaimed five-piece band The Last Dinner Party, winners of two BRIT awards and recognized for their bold tracks like ‘Nothing Matters’, ‘Sinner’, and ‘The Feminine Urge’. The upcoming EP was composed during breaks from touring with the band as they readjusted to normal life. “These songs definitely emerged from those times,” they share. “I suddenly found myself alone in my quiet apartment, filling the silence with my guitar and these melancholic songs. It served as a way to process what was happening in my life and reconnect with myself.” The new single is complemented by a red-wash visualizer directed by Cal McIntyre. “I had a concept for the video, and when I learned Cal was interested in directing it, I was thrilled,” they said about the video creation. “He captured the elements that mattered most to me while adding his own artistic touch.” Mayland will perform two intimate shows in London and Manchester to celebrate the release of her music.
