Ed Sheeran is set to unveil his new album ‘Play’ later this year.
The globally recognized songwriter concludes his Mathematics series and navigates through personal and legal challenges. Emerging from this phase, Ed Sheeran is ready to turn his focus back to positivity, with the upcoming album ‘Play’ seemingly reflecting a global reconnection.
Beginning in Suffolk and completed in Goa, the new album ‘Play’ has a broad, international appeal. Scheduled for release on September 12th, it kicks off with the Persian-influenced single ‘Azizam’.
The new single ‘Old Phone’ is now available – inspired by the rediscovery of a phone Ed had in 2015, he shared the photos from that decade-old reel on a specially created Instagram account.
In introducing the record, he remarks...
‘Play’ was created as a direct reaction to one of the darkest times in my life. After going through that, I wanted to produce joy and vibrancy, and to explore the cultures of the countries I was visiting. I crafted this album across various locations worldwide, finishing it in Goa, India, where I had some of the most enjoyable and creatively exploratory days of my life. It’s a genuine emotional rollercoaster from beginning to end, capturing everything I cherish about music, its joy, and reflecting where I am in my life as a person, partner, and father.
As I embarked on this album initiative, I told myself, ‘I just want everything I do to be fun and playful’ – which is why we are constructing pubs for folk jams, performing gigs on open-top buses, and singing in pink cowboy hats at bars. The older I get, the more I want to relish the exciting and chaotic moments. You can preorder ‘Play’ now; there are many more playful surprises to come before its release x
