Love often takes unexpected paths, which adds to its excitement. There are obstacles, unanticipated detours, and moments where you find yourself holding your breath, eager to discover what lies ahead. However, when you're experiencing it with the right person, each twist becomes part of the thrill, and every turn provides an opportunity to deepen your feelings. Hell of a Ride – Luke Tyler Shelton
I tend to slip back baby
when you ride on my line
Flip me over and I’ll be there in time
You’re a hard-loving woman,
you’re one of a kind
Just flip me over and I’ll be there in time
And it’s a hell of a ride
Hell of a ride with my love
As Shelton kicks off his 2025 releases with "Hell of a Ride," it follows a breakout year in 2024, during which the 25-year-old San Fernando Valley artist introduced himself to audiences through four captivating singles: “Anna,” “Feeling Always Down,” “Love on My Mind,” and “Where the West Begins.” Each of these tracks showcased his blend of old soul and youthful energy.
“To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how my listeners perceive me right now!” he chuckles. “I'm hopeful that my music resonates with people and continues to as I discover more about myself and my artistic direction. There are so many artists that inspire me, like Neil Young, George Harrison, Faces, Ronnie Lane, Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Carole King, and more. My goal is to create good music that inspires and connects with others.”
Atwood Magazine has previously lauded Shelton’s third single, “Love on My Mind,” describing it as a bright, harmony-rich tribute to intimacy: “His lyrics are straightforward, but his voice and songwriting style are pure magic,” we noted in our February 2025 review. “Shelton pours his heart into creating a tapestry of love’s beauty and wonder.”
Luke Tyler Shelton's Sun-Soaked “Love on My Mind” Shines With Vintage Warmth & Timeless Sound: TODAY'S SONG
Drawing upon the same Laurel Canyon vibe that made “Love on My Mind” feel like a warm breeze through a sunlit space, Shelton further refines his timeless sound in “Hell of a Ride,” combining heartfelt narratives with vibrant, rich grooves. Released on February 27 via Concord Records, “Hell of a Ride” presents another golden-hued sound that mirrors the warmth and depth of the ‘70s.
“This is my first single from my recent sessions at Sunset Sound Studios,” Shelton reveals to Atwood Magazine. “It’s laid-back, fun, and has a great rhythm for dancing, which I think is what sets it apart from my earlier singles. It's a sweet love song with a hint of innuendo — something everyone can appreciate.”
I tell you babe, I just can’t get you out of my head
When I think back on all the things we've said
You were my baby before, and now you're all mine
I can't leave ya
You know I'd lose my mind
And it’s a hell of a ride
Hell of a ride with my love
While the energy is infectious, this track also touches on personal experience. More than a playful exploration of desire, “Hell of a Ride” is grounded in heartfelt moments following a rekindled romance, embodying all the emotions that accompany it.
“I wrote ‘Hell of a Ride’ about my girlfriend after we officially got back together,” Shelton explains. “It reflects the journey of being in love with someone. There are highs, lows, and unexpected twists, but experiencing it with someone you love makes it thrilling. That’s what the song captures — it’s also a song of passion and longing.”
