Thematically, ‘Welcome To My Blue Sky’ serves as a kind of time capsule for Etta and Allegra. The two have been friends since their teenage years; when speaking to DIY in 2022, Allegra reflected on how their shared experiences had become more solitary as they grew older. However, this time, the opposite was true—leading to not just a new album, but a deeper layer to their friendship. “In this record, we were both at the same place in our lives, experiencing the same things,” Allegra shares. “It felt really serendipitous... We both went through similar romantic experiences, exiting long-term relationships and starting anew. It was like, ‘What the heck is happening? I’m both sad and happy’—we were each other’s main sources of advice during that time—there was no judgment between us.”
“We're like family, so we've learned what we really need from each other,” Etta adds. “For instance, coming back from tour, I had nowhere to go because I was living with my ex. Allegra was incredibly supportive during that time. It’s those moments when you show up for family. [This album] definitely brought us closer. We have an inherent sisterhood, and that’s just how it is.”
To add more warmth to the discussion, we ask Allegra and Etta to highlight the best musical quality of the other. Allegra quickly responds: “Your chord progressions are far more intriguing than mine! You really embrace that heavier, emo vibe.” Etta enthusiastically reciprocates, stating, “Allegra is a phenomenal guitarist. She has more of a pop sensibility, so when our styles combine, it creates something really special. Additionally, I aim to not overthink when we perform live. Allegra, you excel at separating what you do on the guitar from your singing—how those two elements harmonize.”
