Stormzy surprises fans with a new single ‘sorry rach!’ – listen now.

This year has been tumultuous for the rapper, with his McDonald’s collaboration coinciding with a poorly timed effort to purge his Instagram profile. The fast-food chain has faced criticism from the BDS movement previously, and this partnership unexpectedly aligned with Stormzy’s removal of previous displays of support for the Palestinian cause, among other content.

The outcome? Chaos online, and arguably the most intense backlash Stormzy has encountered in his career.

While gracing the red carpet at the Met Gala, Stormzy has shared an unexpected new track.

The production draws on American influences, but the delivery remains distinctly UK, with Stormzy juxtaposing extravagance with some spiritual guidance.

The title includes an intriguing reference – might it allude to his long-time publicist Rachel Campbell? She must have been under great pressure supporting Stormzy amid the backlash from his recent commercial venture.

It certainly sounds like her voice note is featured at the beginning of the song, making this an unusual, though not unprecedented, acknowledgment from an artist to their publicist. Off the top of our heads, Wiley did something similar with Sony's Taponeswa Mavunga.

We could be mistaken, but ‘sorry rach!’ seems like a fitting response – on top of one of Stormzy’s most impactful recent releases.

The video is shot in one take, with Stormzy engaging directly with his audience – watch it below.
