Unwanted attention from men is a familiar experience for many women. Any woman who has ventured outside her home even once knows this feeling. Men often showcase their strength from across the bar, aiming to draw someone’s attention. Thankfully, their persistence makes identifying the sleazy ones quite easy. The Isle of Wight band Wet Leg perfectly portrays this experience in their latest single, “Catch These Fists.”
Catch these fists – Wet Leg
Can you catch a medicine ball?
Can you catch yourself when you fall?
You should be careful, do you catch my drift?
'Cause what I really want to know
is can you catch these fists?
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, man down
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, level up
I know exactly what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
Released in April through Domino Records, “Catch These Fists” is the lead single from their eagerly awaited album, Moisturizer, set to debut on July 11th. The album delves into love in all its forms, while “Catch These Fists” particularly reflects a lack of love, expressing disdain for a man who spoils a good time.
This marks Wet Leg's return to the music scene since 2022, and they’re coming back strong. “Catch These Fists” is a quintessential Wet Leg track, characterized by their signature lyrics and the dance-punk soundscapes they excel at. The song features a catchy guitar riff that grooves alongside sparkling percussion, embedding itself into the listener’s memory. This groove is the track's most memorable and addictive element.
We're on our way to the club
Stupid is, stupid does
Limousine, racking up
Ketamine, giddy up
I know exactly what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
True to Wet Leg’s style, the instrumentation is both refined and quirky. Much like their previous hits “Chaise Lounge” and “Wet Dream,” they favor a solid bass line. It might not stand out immediately but becomes the most recognizable feature of the song.

With “Catch These Fists,” the band makes a triumphant return with witty and lighthearted vocals. The vocals flow with the instrumentals, weaving in and out, with select lyrics from the verses sticking in the listener's mind. Rhian Teasdale’s choice to deliver the verses in a whisper creates a casual atmosphere, as if it's all a joke. This style leaves both the listener and the man on the receiving end questioning whether these are genuine threats or playful comments meant to diffuse the sting of rejection.
He don’t get puss, he get the boot
I saw him sipping on dark fruit
This always happens late at night
Some guy comes up, says I’m his type
I just threw up in my mouth
When he tried to ask me out
Yeah, don’t approach me
I just wanna dance with my friends
The song encapsulates the anger we all feel internally. It transcends just men approaching you at a bar; it also voices frustrations with the government, long lines at the supermarket, or stubbing your toe. The heightened bursts of frustration in these moments are captured in the chaotic energy of “Catch These Fists.”
I know exactly what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
I know exactly what you’re like
I don’t want your love, I just wanna fight
Fight, fight, fight, fight
Fight, fight, man down
