This year’s showcase is set to occur on Friday afternoon at Horatio’s.
13th May 2025
Following their role as the lead country at last year’s The Great Escape festival, The Spanish Wave is once again bringing an array of outstanding Spanish artists to perform at the 2025 edition of the event. While The Great Escape itself begins tomorrow (Wednesday, 14th May), The Spanish Wave’s showcase will take place this Friday, 16th May, at the well-known end of the pier venue, Horatio’s. Furthermore, it is scheduled just before DIY’s own showcase, so you won’t have any reason to miss it! Kicking off at noon on Friday (with a special Meet The Spaniards reception), their takeover of the venue will feature performances from artists such as folk-influenced Basque musician Verde Prato, playful solo artist Chlöe’s Clue, minimalistic talent Ganges from Santander, and experimental performer Maria Escarmiento. Below, you can find the line-up for the showcase along with more details about each of the performing artists, courtesy of The Spanish Wave.
12.20pm: Verde Prato
Inspired by Basque oral traditions, Verde Prato (aka Ana Arsuaga) explores folk songs and liturgical chants, transforming them with a timeless quality through her emotive voice and electronic soundscapes that cultivate an ethereal, enigmatic ambiance. With her debut album 'Kondaira eder hura' (2021), Verde Prato quickly gained recognition in the music world. Following three EPs and the album 'Adoretua', she is set to release 'Bizitza eztia' (Plan B music, 2025) - meaning "la dolce vita" in Basque - which was recorded in Rome and produced in collaboration with Donato Dozzy, touching on themes of feminism, freedom, solitude, and nature. It oscillates between light and dark and is imbued with sweetness and tranquility.
1.30pm: Chlöe's Clue
Chlöe’s Clue – the moniker of Raquel Adalid from Valencia, Spain – combines childhood fantasies with everyday life in an ironic and subtle manner. She has just launched 'Jolín,' the first single from her forthcoming EP, which presents a naive yet dark rumble unveiling a new aspect of the artist’s musical spectrum. Her retro-futuristic sound interweaves acoustic guitars, synths, and toys, always rooted in classic, folkloric traditions. The project has progressed through her three albums, marking her presence at several major Spanish festivals and performances in the US at SXSW, and in France at Silencio Club, alongside collaborations with 'Daniel, Me Estás Matando.'
2.30pm: Ganges
Ganges is the musical endeavor of Spanish artist Teresa Gutiérrez. With a classical music background, her sound fuses intimate electronic pop with elements of lo-fi, bedroom pop, and hyperpop, set against a backdrop rich in Japanese cultural influences. Following the success of her debut 'Dime Algo (Bonito)' (2020) and collaborations with artists including Natalia Lacunza, Vangoura, and Yarea, she released her full-length album, 'SORA', in 2024. Co-produced with Pau Corea and Bearoid, 'SORA' delves into breakbeat, soft techno, and ASMR-like textures, crafting a dreamy soundscape filled with captivating hooks and deeply melodic vocals.
3.30pm: Maria Escarmiento
With a unique persona, Maria Escarmiento made her mark after appearing on the musical talent show, Operación Triunfo, diving into the Spanish urban music scene and collaborating with key artists and producers to create dancefloor anthems that blend sensuality with melancholy. Her style is varied yet coherent; moving away from reggaeton, she has embraced pop, electronic, and hyperpop more vigorously. Maria continues to progress in Spain, gradually bringing mainstream attention closer to her music. She stands out as a leading figure in the emerging female pop scene in Spain, characterized by talented, original, and pioneering artists.
