TOPS Announces Upcoming Album ‘Bury The Key’

Their initial release for Ghostly International.

TOPS is set to launch their new album titled ‘Bury The Key’ on August 22nd.

Hailing from the Montreal DIY scene of the 2010s, the band merges raw production aesthetics with a fiercely independent attitude and a keen sense for captivating pop melodies. Recently energized, TOPS has signed with Ghostly International, and a new album is on the way this summer.

Scheduled for release on August 22nd, the twelve-track 'Bury The Key' showcases TOPS – comprised of musicians Jane Penny, David Carriere, Marta Cikojevic, and Riley Fleck – as they intentionally move away from their previous sound and embrace a darker mood.

The new self-produced tracks embody what Penny describes as “evil TOPS.” She explains, “We’ve often been perceived as a soft band or somewhat naive, in a Canadian way, but we took on the challenge to genuinely reflect the world around us.”

The new single ‘Chlorine’ is available now. While the commitment to melody is still strong, there is an added depth and a yearning to explore darker themes.

      Jane shares:

“At one point, I found myself trapped in a cycle of going to bars, hoping to run into someone who wasn't good for me but whom I felt an irresistible attraction to. Growing up in Edmonton, Alberta, where winters are harsh, I frequently visited the pool during the cold months. That’s also when I began going to bars with friends. I was reflecting on how both alcohol and chlorine can be toxic, considering the people I've tried to get close to who have ultimately been detrimental for me, yet I still hold affection for them, which inspired the song 'Chlorine.'”
