Melbourne punks CLAMM make a triumphant return with their exhilarating new material...

The Melbourne punk trio CLAMM, consisting of Jack Summers, Miles Harding, and Stella Rennex, has released their third studio album. This is the band's first offering since their EP in 2024, and it's an invigorating and essential listen—if you're a fan of distortion and fuzz bass pedals, get ready for an exhilarating experience!
The album kicks off with ‘And I Try,’ which sets the tone perfectly with a striking, jittery bassline enhanced by a fuzz pedal and pulsating drums, evoking the frenetic energy of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's ‘Love Missile F1-11.’ It’s such a captivating opening track that it quickly became one of my favorites on the album.
The second track, ‘No Idea’—the album's lead single—smoothly transitions us along, embracing a slightly experimental vibe before shifting to a more classic punk sound reminiscent of UK Subs and The Damned.
Following this is ‘Problem Is,’ which maintains a similar style, featuring a stripped-back energy that delivers a tight, compelling beat. The sixth track, ‘More Serious Acts,’ revisits the non-traditional sound established by the opening track and has also become a favorite of mine, with that bass pedal making another appearance—a sound that arguably defines the album, even if it’s used sparingly. It feels as if someone dreamed up a punk-infused version of Moloko’s ‘Indigo’ and layered several punk elements on top to create something entirely new.
To put it plainly: this album is fantastic. While it’s easy to draw parallels with other classic punk bands, CLAMM has taken those influences further and carved out their unique sound, reshaping the genre to fit their vision. Here’s hoping for plenty more from CLAMM.
8/10
