Colin Jerwood, the frontman of Conflict, has passed away.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed this evening, June 2, via the band's social media platforms. A statement from his family begins: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce Colin has died following a brief illness. We understand that this is difficult news for his supporters.”

An official statement from Conflict expresses: “As you can imagine, we are at a loss for words to convey our sadness and upset at the loss of our band member and dear friend, Colin. We extend our heartfelt condolences to James, Georgia, and all of Colin's family and friends. We request that you respect their privacy and understand that we are currently mourning a significant loss.”

Colin Jerwood’s family has requested that fans refrain from attending the funeral; “His family will be reviewing any messages on the memorial page, and your presence will be felt.”

Conflict originated from Eltham in South London, part of a group of bands that fused street punk styles with lyrics that openly challenged capitalist society during Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative regime. They released their debut EP on Crass Records in 1982 and later established their own Mortarhate Records, a crucial platform for the anarcho-punk movement in the UK.

Despite being targeted by authorities and overlooked by the mainstream music industry, Conflict left a lasting mark on British music, with their activism in veganism and anti-capitalism attracting many disenfranchised individuals to their cause.

Staying active throughout the decade, Conflict’s most recent lineup formed in 2021, working on new music. Their latest release, ‘This Much Remains,’ came out in May of this year. In recent times, Colin Jerwood had been developing an extensive memoir detailing “Conflict, the movement, and my life.”

      Rest in power.
