CHINCHILLA has unveiled her latest track ‘Avoidance’.
The London-based pop innovator is embarking on a tour this month, performing three completely sold out headline shows in the UK.
Her new single ‘Avoidance’ carries a heartfelt message to her fans. It’s a classic pop ballad with a modern twist, created during a challenging time in her life.
Facing stress and anxiety, CHINCHILLA received a distressing text while on her way to a writing session, and within 45 minutes, the new single came to life.
‘Avoidance’ serves as a form of therapy through pop music, allowing CHINCHILLA to express her emotions. It transitions from a dark emotional state to a brighter perspective, building on the intensity of her recent EP ‘Flytrap’.
CHINCHILLA remarked…
I wrote this during a period filled with stress and burnout – after releasing ‘Little Girl Gone’, which went viral and transformed my life, I was managing everything alone, with no time for eating or sleeping. I was also dealing with a breakup, and while en route to a writing session, I received a message that triggered an anxiety attack. My constant thought was ‘noooo, I can’t feel like this right now,’ which probably just intensified the situation.
I felt capable of handling everything related to music, big or small, but the pain I was experiencing behind those distractions became overwhelming. It was truly agonizing. At that moment, I felt frozen and unable to react – all I wanted was to escape and hide under the duvet until the feelings faded away. I didn't know how to manage the anxiety encompassing me. When I arrived at my writing session, we were supposed to work on a different song, but the emotions were all-consuming, and I could only write about what I was feeling.
We wrote and recorded it in 45 minutes, and I've always felt a deep connection to this song that captures a very raw moment. No lyrics were altered; it was an authentic expression of emotions. As we completed the song, we tried various ways to enhance the production, but nothing matched the magic of the original version – so the final song remains close to that initial take.
