Reflective, a raw wound, a self-examination, New York-based artist Benét provides a sanctuary for listeners to contemplate his latest indie rock creation, ‘Make Em Laugh’.
In contrast to what the title implies, ‘Make Em Laugh’ carries a more somber mood, revealing an inner struggle and the openness to reveal everything. Instead of shying away from intense emotions, the 11-track album actively confronts them. It courageously unravels life's complexities, posing questions filled with hope rather than fear. This project reflects Benét's personal experience in therapy, a journey that led him to the undeniable truth: love inevitably brings loss, but the pursuit of love remains worthwhile.

The album begins with ‘Wonder’, featuring a chorus of voices that express the anguish we all feel, a yearning for relief from a disappointing conclusion. These voices belong to Benét’s actual friends, each dealing with different kinds of grief.
‘Birds Eye’ is a standout piece, a vibrant exploration of inquiry. “I’d like to feel safe / I’d like to feel warm, embraced / I’m stronger than I was, still weaker than the rest.” It resonates with both exhilaration and stability, showcasing Benét’s artistic growth.
Faye Webster joins in to conclude the album with its titular track, an expansive guitar ballad that tugs at the heartstrings. Together with Margaux and AnnonXL, Benét narrates his own journey in a poignant yet hopeful manner. With his raw vocals and stripped-down essence, he is achingly authentic on ‘Make Em Laugh’, making it a profound work of art.
