Tonight (June 27th), The 1975 headlined Glastonbury Festival with an impressive performance.
In the lead-up to the show, there was much speculation, with reports that The 1975 had spent their performance fee four times over just on production.
Taking the stage with determination, Matty Healy led the band through a set that spanned their entire career. They kicked off with ‘Happiness’ and ‘If You’re Too Shy Let Me Know’, delivering a high-energy show that featured numerous fan favorites.
Taking a moment to catch his breath, Matty welcomed the audience, saying, “Welcome to the weekend… let’s go!”
Changing things up a bit, The 1975 played ‘Robbers’ and ‘Somebody Else’, allowing the pace to slow down slightly.
During ‘Chocolate’, the band humorously poked fun at themselves, displaying gibberish words on the visuals following Matty’s intentionally over-the-top introduction: “I want to be sincere for a second… this moment is leading me to realize that – and I’m being sincere – I’m probably the best. The best songwriter of my generation. A poet, is what I am. A generational wordsmith.”
There was a rare moment of seriousness when the frontman stated: “For the first time in my life I don’t know what to say…”
