No Regrets: An Interview with Hearts2Hearts

Hearts2Hearts had just finished their soundcheck on the SMTOWN LIVE stage when we had the chance to chat with them backstage. Their brief performance was their debut in front of a London audience, offering an exciting glimpse of what was ahead.

Less than an hour later, they were ready to take the main stage at SMTOWN LIVE 2025, performing alongside SM Entertainment giants like NCT, SHINee, EXO, Red Velvet, and TVXQ, as part of a K-pop lineup celebrating SM’s 30th anniversary.

It's a significant moment, yet they seemed fully prepared for it. Hearts2Hearts, the newest girl group from SM, has quickly developed a vivid artistic identity through three unique releases in just a few months.

Their debut single, "The Chase," introduced a dreamlike concept featuring ethereal vocals and sleek choreography, establishing a mysterious, almost cinematic vibe, complemented by a song written by the renowned British songwriting trio FLO, known for fusing modern R&B with refined pop elements.

The subsequent track, "Butterflies," maintained its soft, emotional core while embracing a more romantic ambiance, complete with gentle harmonies and nostalgic lyrics.

Then came "STYLE," marking a bold shift in mood. With its sparkling disco-house sound, dazzling visuals, and vibrant choreography, "STYLE" felt like the group’s first true declaration of confidence.

Filled with summer energy, from its visuals to their stage presence, "STYLE" represented a turning point, showcasing their growing comfort in their identities as both artists and individuals.

This change in sound parallels a deeper personal transformation among the members. They discuss their MBTI, the personality framework that fans often analyze. It categorizes individuals into 16 types based on their information processing and decision-making styles, and within the short time since their debut, some members express feeling a shift.

“I was originally ENTP, but I recently changed to ENFP,” STELLA shares. “I think it’s influenced by IAN, who is also ENFP. Her bright emotions have definitely affected me.”

“I used to be ISTJ, but now I’m INTJ,” JUUN adds. “I feel I lean more towards TJ, though N and S are nearly equal.”

“I transitioned from ISTJ to ISFP,” YE-ON mentions.

“I was INFP, but I’ve switched to ESFP, though I’m not sure why,” CARMEN confesses.

“I initially identified as INFJ, and now I'm ESFP,” A-NA states.

Conversely, some have remained consistent with their types since their debut. IAN identifies as ENFP, while JIWOO considers herself an unwavering ISTJ, and YUHA affirms her status as INTJ.

After these personal insights, the conversation shifts to their fashion sense, which is fitting for a group with a single titled "STYLE."

“Some of the girls and I are obsessed with shopping,” STELLA laughs. “Whenever there’s a sale, we’re there. Recently, I’ve been trying more rings and necklaces—small details that reflect our personalities.”

IAN adds, “When one member purchases something beautiful, it tends to set a trend within the group. It creates what we might call the ‘Hearts2Hearts style.’”

Their collective eye for aesthetics is matched by their musical range. When asked to describe their three songs in one word each, YUHA nails it: “‘The Chase’ is mystical. ‘Butterflies’ is dreamy. And ‘STYLE’ is… simply Hearts2Hearts.”

As their sound and image continue to evolve, so does their work ethic. Preparing for a comeback, they agree, is an all-encompassing experience.

“We genuinely enjoy every aspect—styling, recording, and choreography,” STELLA explains. “But we place a strong emphasis on synchronization. Our fans notice our chemistry on stage, which drives us to work hard at it.”

YE‑ON emphasizes their efforts behind the scenes as well: “Before each performance, we have a group cheer. It’s a small gesture, but it reinforces our bond. It strengthens our teamwork.”

These relationships are just as evident outside of performances. “When we perform, we come face to face with fans who pour out their love and support,” A‑NA shares. “I feel responsible and deeply grateful to them. Throughout this journey, we are maturing as a group and making progress.”

It’s clear that the support—and the accompanying pressure—has only fueled their dedication. STELLA recalls one of their first major performances: “The first time we stepped onto a big stage, we were all nervous backstage. We were like, ‘Oh my God, deep breaths,’ constantly checking on each other—‘Are you alright?’”

“But over time, we’ve grown. We feel more confident in what we do now.”

She continues, reflecting on the significance of that day: “It’s a true honor to be
