Idlewild Unveils New Self-Titled Album

The Scottish indie band Idlewild will launch their new self-titled album on October 3rd.

This forthcoming album marks the group's first release in six years and is their tenth studio album overall.

Under V2 Records, it delves into their aesthetic roots, revisiting key themes that have shaped Idlewild’s journey. Produced by Rod Jones, who also mixed the album, and Idlewild, it was composed throughout 2024 at Post Electric Studios in Edinburgh and the Isle of Iona Library in the Hebrides.

As frontman Roddy Woomble describes it, the album explores "big ideas, deep uncertainties, memorable tunes."

“We’re reflecting without being nostalgic — we considered both the songs we had created and the new ones we were working on,” Roddy Woomble notes. “For the first time, we drew on our own history, not nostalgically, but in a constructive, creative manner, acknowledging that we had a ‘sound’ and that the songs we were crafting should honor that. Once it was all recorded and complete, it felt appropriate to simply name it ‘Idlewild.’”

The new single ‘Stay Out Of Place’ stands alongside some of the band’s finest work – it retains the alt crunch, enriched by a nearly Celtic essence of folk-inspired longing. Essentially, it represents prime Idlewild.

      Roddy Woomble remarks:

“Walt Whitman was correct, we do contain ‘multitudes’ — there is more than one ‘us’ within — we are selecting a voice from among many. This is particularly intriguing in a band setting because it includes not just one voice, but five collaborating voices over time. We structure the world in our own way, but at times, it’s necessary to disrupt expectations and disregard the manual — I guess that’s what I'm conveying with ‘Stay Out Of Place.’ It felt like an excellent starting point and (re)introduction to Idlewild in 2025…”
