Drummer Matt Cameron is departing from Pearl Jam.

The iconic American rock band announced this news in an online statement, although they did not reveal the reasons for his departure.

Matt Cameron became a part of Pearl Jam in 1998, after spending a decade with Soundgarden, and has been involved in recording several albums and multiple world tours with them. In a message, he shares:

After 27 amazing years, I have taken my last steps down the drum riser for the mighty Pearl Jam. I extend my love and respect to Jeff, Ed, Mike, and Stone for welcoming me into the band in 1998 and for granting me an incredible opportunity filled with friendships, creativity, challenges, and laughter. I will always be grateful to the crew, staff, and fans around the world. It's been an extraordinary journey. More updates to come. I thank you all from the depths of my heart.

      In response, Pearl Jam stated:

From being one of our first musical inspirations in Skinyard and the legendary Soundgarden, to contributing to our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been an exceptional and powerful musician and drummer.

He has driven the last 27 years of Pearl Jam's live performances and studio projects. This has been a crucial chapter for our band, and we wish him all the best in the future. He will be greatly missed and will always remain our friend in art and music.

      We love you, Matt.
