Musician, comedian, and writer Fred Armisen has created a new album featuring sound effects.
The album, titled ‘100 Sound Effects,’ is set to be released by Drag City on September 26th, and includes a variety of sounds like bonks, skronks, squeals, and fizzes.
With a conceptual approach, it draws inspiration from library recordings – where musicians are tasked with producing works that can be licensed for film and television use.
Fred Armisen believes there are individuals out there who genuinely enjoy hearing sounds that go bump in the night.
The album is currently available for pre-order, and the first seven sound effects have been released as a new 'single.' Fred Armisen remarked:
"I was considering haunted house sound effects albums and how enjoyable they seemed to record. I wanted to do this at Steve Albini’s studio in Chicago, Electrical Audio, but since it wasn't a collection of songs and I wasn’t sure how long the recording would take, I needed to do it where I live, in Los Angeles. I reached out to Steve about my project and asked if he could recommend any engineers in L.A. He was very enthusiastic about the idea and contacted Dave Grohl for potential help. Dave suggested Darrell Thorp, and we began working at Studio 606 before moving to Sunset Sound. Darrell was very creative and a joy to collaborate with. Since Steve played a crucial role in making this happen, I dedicate the album to his memory. I think about him every day.”
Track titles that exemplify the album include ‘Music Venue Employee Kicking Everyone Out While Throwing Away Bottles,’ with contributions from Mary Lynn Rajskub, Amber Coffman, Tim Heidecker, Riki Lindhome, and Alice Carbone Tench.
