Born in Lewisham, multi-instrumentalist cktrl is back with a new single titled ‘balance’.
Described as freeform, serene, and rich, ‘balance’ arrives three years after the 2022 EP ‘yield’, marking a fresh phase of self-exploration for cktrl. The track, characterized by its delicate string arrangements and smooth horns, draws upon cktrl's Jamaican and Montserratian ancestry, offering a space for quiet reflection.
Speaking about this return to himself, cktrl shares: “Taking the time to really pay attention has provided me with tools for growth. Our spirit is light, and without it, we exist in darkness. There's beauty in the subtleties of life, particularly when considering how our experiences shape us. I want to continue healing through my music and I hope others can find the same comfort in it.”
cktrl (pronounced “control”) is an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and producer recognized for fusing classical, ambient, jazz, and R&B into deep, emotive pieces.
A self-taught producer and classically trained clarinet player, cktrl delves into themes of spirituality, enduring love, and the complexities of black identity in his creations.
