New Zealand amplifies the voices of The Trevor Project, the leading organization dedicated to suicide prevention for LGBTQ+ youth.
Ben Hazlewood has unveiled his latest single, ‘Spiral.’
This beautiful release from the New Zealand artist showcases Hazlewood’s songwriting at its most reflective. Addressing issues related to mental health, resilience, and overcoming challenges, ‘Spiral’ combines impactful cinematic drums and guitar riffs, creating a rising intensity with a strong vocal performance.
Written and recorded during a brief stay in New York, ‘Spiral’ highlights the collaborative efforts of Austin Myles Grant, Lauren Little, and Hazlewood himself. Launched during Pride month, the artist is leveraging his platform to raise funds for The Trevor Project, the top suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ+ youth.
A valuable addition to Hazlewood’s anthemic body of work, ‘Spiral’ conveys heartfelt emotions, offering a poignant moment of intricate storytelling.
Reflecting on the song, the artist expresses: “From the depths of my struggles comes ‘Spiral,’ a reflection of determination and resilience. After years of confronting mental health issues, music became my ultimate lifeline. At my lowest point, I was trapped in a spiral of self-destruction, nearing rock bottom, ‘scanned for exits I won’t walk through.’ Yet, I discovered the strength to confront my trauma and worked to transform my life ‘180 from a spiral.’
He adds, “Healing is not a straightforward path; it’s complicated and challenging. However, like wildflowers that bloom despite the toughest conditions, I’ve realized that I can flourish.”
