Irish artist For Those I Love has released his powerful new single ‘Mirror.’
Available now, it marks his return, as For Those I Love is set to debut new album ‘Carving The Stone’ on August 8th. The album expands his artistic journey following a break from the spotlight, during which the artist – whose real name is David Balfe – faced challenges in his creative process.
“There was a time when I felt I had nothing to express because I didn’t want to fill space for the sake of it,” Balfe explains. “Then eventually, everything just started flowing out.”
The new track ‘Mirror’ is inspired by Balfe's experiences in Dublin, a city marked by significant class divides; the affluence from the Celtic Tiger era lingers alongside areas of severe hardship.
‘Mirror’ originates from a personal encounter where Balfe was threatened with a knife; he reflects on the societal pressures faced by young working-class individuals.
Reversing the narrative, he criticizes a flawed system: “I’ve been pierced by mine, while those in power indulge, which feels like the greater injustice to me. If I’m going to bleed, let it be from a blade I can see.”
Catch For Those I Love on tour this Autumn – performances include London's Islington Assembly Hall on September 25th and Dublin's 3Olympia Theatre on October 6th.
