"If you’re passionate about something, you just need to figure out what you can do and give it your all to make it succeed." In your lyrics, you tackle significant topics, yet the songs aren't always gloomy—take 'swimming in pity,' which discusses depression but is also quite anthemic. How do you manage to balance these emotions? Sometimes it’s a deliberate choice; I enjoy contrasts. Other times, it just evolves that way because it sounds amazing. Plus, many of my songs are sad, so I need to mix it up occasionally! Your latest single, ‘shadow’, has just released, but fans have been going crazy over sneak peeks of it online for weeks! What’s it like to have this kind of digital audience? It feels amazing and very exciting. I’m really thankful for everyone who listens to my music, and it makes me happy to see that people are connecting with ‘shadow’. However, social media can be quite unpredictable, so it’s crucial not to rely solely on it for validation; I wrote ‘shadow’ a year ago and loved it just as much then—it's just extra special that people are resonating with it now. If you could join a band or collaborate with an artist from the last two decades, who would it be and why? Ugh, my answer changes every day… but right now, I’d probably pick Elliot Smith—he’d be the lead singer and guitarist, while I’d just be on backing vocals (with my mic muted). Lastly, DIY is coming over for dinner—what are you cooking? Honestly, I usually make one of two dishes… you can choose between creamy salmon pasta or chorizo pasta; the choice is yours. They’re both about a 6.5 out of 10, but made with love! <3
