The music industry has taken a moment to honor Ozzy Osbourne.
The iconic figure, who grew up in Birmingham, led Black Sabbath and played a crucial role in defining the early heavy metal genre. A lasting figure in music, his resurgence alongside the talented guitarist Randy Rhoads sparked another wave of metal, and Ozzy's remarkable endurance can be attributed to his relatable working-class background.
Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of 76, with his last performance being a special show at Birmingham’s Villa Park.
At the concert, Yungblud delivered a rendition of ‘Changes,’ which was a standout moment, accompanied by a touching backstage interaction where the young artist presented Ozzy with a crucifix crafted by one of his closest friends.
In a heartfelt note, Yungblud referred to Ozzy as “the greatest,” expressing:
I didn’t expect you to go so soon; the last time we met, you were full of life and your laughter filled the space. But as it often is with legends, they seem to have insights we don’t. I will always remember you—you’ll be in every note I sing and with me every time I take the stage. That cross around my neck is my most treasured possession. When you asked if there was anything you could do for me, I said then and I reiterate now, for all of us, the music was enough. You took us on your journey—an adventure that ignited it all. I am genuinely heartbroken. You were the greatest of all time.
Queen guitarist Sir Brian May, who knew Ozzy well, expressed his sorrow about Ozzy’s passing, stating: “It’s heartbreaking to hear about Ozzy’s death. His final performance at Villa Park was a magnificent farewell—there was immense love for him in that venue. I’m thankful for the chance to share a few quiet moments with him after the show, and I’m relieved to know he passed peacefully surrounded by his family. However, the world will miss Ozzy's distinct presence and unmatched talent. My deepest condolences to Sharon and their wonderful family, as well as to Bill, Geezer, and my dear friend Tony—this is truly family—a sentiment I understand all too well. REST IN PEACE, dear Ozzy.”
Alice Cooper referred to Ozzy as a “legend” in a note and extended his sympathy to Ozzy’s family: “The entire world is mourning Ozzy tonight. Throughout his extensive career, he garnered tremendous respect from his peers and fans globally as an unparalleled performer and cultural icon.”
“I always viewed Ozzy as a blend of the prince of darkness, which is how his fans perceived him, and the court jester. That was the side his family and friends recognized. He was and will forever remain a rock n roll legend. Rock n Roll is a family and a fraternity. When we lose one of our own, it truly hurts. I wish I had gotten to know my brother Ozzy better. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and the rest of the Ozzy family—our thoughts and prayers are with you tonight. A monumental loss has occurred, yet rock will endure.”
Metallica attended Ozzy’s final show and were among the first to pay tribute to him: “It’s hard to articulate what Ozzy Osbourne has meant to Metallica. Words like hero, icon, pioneer, inspiration, mentor, and, most importantly, friend come to mind. Ozzy and Sharon believed in us and changed our lives and careers. He showed us how to thrive in the big leagues while being warm, inviting, engaging, and truly remarkable.”
“We are heartbroken and devastated by this loss and send our love and condolences to Sharon and their family, bandmates, and his extensive circle of friends. He leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be deeply missed.”
