Burial has unveiled two new tracks titled ‘Comafields’ and ‘Imaginary Festival’.
The mysterious producer aligned with XL Recordings last year, offering his captivating two-part release ‘Dreamfear’ / ‘Boy Sent From Above’.
Now, he returns to Hyperdub, the label that has been integral to his legendary catalogue, for yet another 12-inch release.
Both ‘Comafields’ and ‘Imaginary Festival’ are expansive creations, totaling 23 minutes of fresh music, with the soothing ambiance drifting further from traditional club sounds.
‘Comafields’ begins with a sampled spoken word incantation, and its ethereal synths draw from trance influences while weaving them into a distinct sonic vocabulary.
On first listen, ‘Imaginary Festival’ may evoke the light digital soundscapes of Aphex Twin's ‘Selected Ambient Works’ era, but its 11-minute duration enables Burial to transition from near-silence to groovy, abstract house elements.
Familiar Burial elements remain in play — the audio crackle, vocal fragments, and hints of anxious introspection — yet ‘Comafields’ and ‘Imaginary Festival’ continue to guide listeners into new realms.
