Indigo De Souza: Glass Half Full

"I constantly feel like I’m evolving into a new version of myself." Shortly after completing ‘Precipice’, Indigo's hometown of Asheville was impacted by Hurricane Helene in September 2024, leading to the destruction of all her belongings due to flooding. Despite the overwhelming tragedy, Indigo's first social media post was filled with hope: “I have faith in my community,” she expressed. As she prepares for the responsibilities that accompany the release of ‘Precipice’ and adapts to her new life in LA (having made the move three months after the flood), so much has transformed since the last tracks were recorded for ‘Precipice’. Reflecting on this time capsule has aided her in navigating current challenges. “It takes me back to the mindset I had before the flood, and it reminds me of that period,” she shares. “[The flood] definitely taught me a lot, and the most significant lesson was learning to let go. I lost so many meaningful things: my home; my possessions; the space we shared as a community [Indigo’s home was a converted church that served as a refuge for artists and friends]. However, I’ve gained a profound understanding of unity and the importance of bringing your community together through hard times and finding joy in the smallest things.” Whether it’s her close-knit group of fans—whom she hosted listening parties with watercolor painting in NYC and LA—the comfort of Asheville, or the new people she is meeting in LA, community holds great significance for Indigo. “Many of the principles I learned about myself in North Carolina have stayed with me during my time in LA,” she states with pride. “I now have an emotional and existential openness with people, and I create a space for those around me to be their authentic selves.” Grace, fearlessness, optimism, bravery, community—the list is extensive. As Indigo’s journey through this complex world unfolds, her values continue to grow and shape her artistry, fundamentally intertwining them. “We ended up creating an entirely new album in LA that will be released after ‘Precipice’,” Indigo reveals unexpectedly. “I actually have two albums ready to be completed and released.” Life moves quickly, but it seems Indigo moves even faster. When asked if this pace feels burdensome, considering the instinctive nature of her songwriting clashes with the industry's release timeline, she acknowledges, “It can be, at times.” However, we anticipate Indigo De Souza's positive spin on things—it’s simply her way. “Most of the time, it’s fine,” she grins. “I’ll keep writing songs!” ‘Precipice’ is now available through Loma Vista.
