After nearly a decade of collaboration in various forms, Dutch indie luminaries Pip Blom and Personal Trainer frontman Willem Smit have unveiled their new joint venture, Long Fling. This project centers around unconventional duets, and their self-titled debut album will be released on 3rd October, featuring the discordant first single, ‘Flung,’ which is available now. This announcement follows Pip Blom’s latest EP, ‘Grip,’ which came out in June, and Personal Trainer’s second album, ‘Still Waiting,’ released last year. Discussing their collaboration, Willem expressed that “through the years, we've become more at ease creating music together. Putting together a record that we unintentionally crafted without the intention of making an album was enjoyable yet peculiar. At times it felt like archaeology. We tried to alter things... but quickly realized that it made the most sense to stick to our original ideas.” Describing 'Long Fling' as “a genuine fusion of both of us,” Pip added: “this was the first time we handled everything, including the mixing, by ourselves. We both felt confident doing it this time because we were in it together, and we embraced the notion that the record didn’t have to be extremely polished or flawless. When we asked our dads if they thought the album sounded more like a Willem or a Pip album, they both named the other.” Check out the charming DIY video for ‘Flung’ below. After spending the summer performing at select festivals, including Dorset's esteemed End Of The Road, Willem and Pip will celebrate the launch of ‘Long Fling’ with a seven-date tour across the Netherlands and the UK.
