Los Angeles songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jay Som, also known as Melina Duterte, has unveiled another glimpse of her upcoming album, 'Belong'. The latest single, 'Cards On The Table', is the third track from her fourth studio album, which is scheduled for release on October 10 through Lucky Number.
Regarding her new release—following 'Float' featuring Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World and 'A Million Reasons Why'—Melina expressed, “‘Cards On The Table’ is my favorite song on ‘Belong’! It addresses the evolving nature of friendships and the impact of conflict in platonic relationships when misunderstanding occurs. This dynamic is a universal experience. It often feels like a continuous cycle of people entering and exiting your life, ultimately contributing to self-discovery and personal growth.” The track also features additional vocals by Lexi Vega from Mini Trees.
Jay Som’s forthcoming album marks her first full-length release in six years, following 2019’s 'Anak Ko'. While the album was written, produced, engineered, and mixed by Duterte, it includes contributions from collaborators Joao Gonzalez (of Soft Glas), Mal Hauser (Mk.gee, Illuminati Hotties), and Steph Marziano, as well as guest vocals from Hayley Williams, along with Jim and Lexi mentioned earlier. The tracklist for 'Belong' is as follows:
