Paul Weller's accountants terminated their services due to his remarks about Gaza – so he is taking legal action against them.

Paul Weller is initiating legal action against his former accountants after being dropped following his remarks on Israel’s actions in Gaza.

The musician has a history of advocating for political and social causes, beginning with his time in the Jam, continuing with the left-leaning pop of The Style Council, and extending into his extensive solo career. However, Weller’s outspoken support for Palestinian solidarity has sparked significant controversy.

He is in the process of organizing his second Gig For Gaza, which aims to raise funds for charities assisting Palestinians on the ground.

In interviews, Paul Weller has reiterated his stance that Israel is engaging in “genocide” against the Palestinians and expressed the belief that a Palestinian state should be recognized globally.

In reaction to his statements, his long-time accounting firm, Harris and Trotter, has severed ties with him.

The accounting company, which had collaborated with Weller for over thirty years, is now facing legal action from the songwriter.

The Press Association has reviewed a pre-action letter indicating that Weller was informed in March that the accountants and tax advisors would no longer work with him.

The letter includes a WhatsApp message from a partner at the firm stating: “It’s widely acknowledged what your political views are regarding Israel, the Palestinians, and Gaza, but we as a firm are offended by the claims that Israel is committing any form of genocide.”

“Everyone can have their own opinions, but your allegations reflect such anti-Israel sentiments that we, as a firm with Jewish heritage and numerous Jewish partners, cannot continue to work with someone who holds these views.”

In response, Paul Weller’s legal representatives contend that by terminating their services, Harris and Trotter have unlawfully discriminated against the singer’s protected philosophical beliefs—that is, his assertion that Israel is perpetrating genocide in Gaza and that Palestine should be recognized as a sovereign state.

In a statement, Paul Weller affirms his convictions:

“I have always voiced my opposition to injustice, whether it be apartheid, ethnic cleansing, or genocide. The situation facing the Palestinian people in Gaza is a humanitarian disaster. I hold that they deserve self-determination, dignity, and protection under international law, and I assert that Israel is guilty of genocide against them. This must be acknowledged.”

“Suppressing those who articulate this truth is not merely censorship—it amounts to complicity. I am pursuing legal action not just for my own sake, but to help ensure that others are not similarly punished for voicing their beliefs regarding the rights of the Palestinian people.”

Gig For Gaza is scheduled to be held at the Troxy in London on October 17th.
