Listen: “In The Dark” – Louie Blue

This music reflects my true self, not the person I'm expected to be. It's bold, sincere, and alive.

Louie Blue’s smoldering new single carries a sense of urgency – a restless yearning that resonates in his voice, flows through his guitar, and remains in each shining groove.

“In the Dark” is both raw and brilliant, sharp and soulful; its surface shines with brutal honesty and the pang of heartbreak. The two-and-a-half-minute track is a poignant reflection on love gone wrong, intimacy twisted into cruelty, and the complex ways desire can turn to pain. Brooding yet breathtakingly intense, “In the Dark” is catchy, cathartic, and completely immersive – an emotionally charged anthem that moves the body while weighing heavily on the soul.

It’s Louie Blue at his boldest, transforming turmoil into something we can’t resist replaying.

      Just give me a reason

      (In the dark)

      Give me a reason

      Why won’t you hold me

      Like you used to

      In the dark?

      Put on a show now

I’ve got something for you to see

      (Say what?)

      (What do you have?)

I won’t wait in line anymore

What is it you want me to do?

Atwood Magazine is thrilled to premiere “In the Dark,” the newest single from Louie Blue’s forthcoming third album Blood & Bones, set to release on September 19th through Sony & Booa Music. Following tracks like “Ordinary Girl,” “Toni,” “Dusty,” and “Diamond,” this song reveals a darker, more turbulent facet of the 22-year-old Finnish-Swedish-Italian artist, who first garnered attention at 17 with his viral debut “Confused” and has since issued two acclaimed albums (Notes in 2020 and DIVISION 8 in 2022). Entirely self-produced, Blood & Bones was conceived, recorded, mixed, and produced by Blue himself – a product of four solitary years of exploration, transformation, and self-exploration.

While much of the album encompasses calm reflection, spirituality, and intimate self-assessment, “In the Dark” emerges as one of its most explosive pieces –

      – a fiery outlier born not from quiet contemplation, but inspired by cinematic storytelling. These darker themes ground the album's broader palette of personal reflections in a tangible, real-world confrontation.

“The story is inspired by the movie I, Tonya,” Blue reveals to Atwood Magazine. “The film deeply moved me, and I wanted to express the betrayal and desensitization surrounding abuse.” This weighty theme cuts through the song’s vibrant, rhythm-driven surface. “In the Dark” unfolds like a groove-infused confession, its polished exterior masking the turbulence and volatility within. The lyrics reveal longing and loss – “Just give me a reason / why won’t you hold me like you used to in the dark,” Blue sings, his voice a gentle vessel of sorrow and inner conflict – while also exposing the harsh reality of physical communication gone awry: “Throwing me against the wall, it’s the only way you know how to communicate.” It’s a chilling contradiction, where desire intertwines with damage.

Blue leans into this tension sonically, creating something that feels both organic and ambient, vibrant yet raw – what could be described as unfiltered soul. “I embraced analog textures and a raw, organic production method,” he explains. “Everything was recorded on tape using live instruments and vintage techniques. I aimed for a sound that was warm and imperfect – an antidote to today’s overly polished pop.”

The outcome is hypnotic: Sparkling riffs, a driving, relentless bassline, and a vocal delivery that flows like smoke, intertwining confession with catharsis.

Blue’s guitar work shines through a blend of riffing and sustained notes, while his voice serves not only as a medium for emotion but also becomes an instrument in itself – elongating syllables and bending melodies to extract every ounce of feeling
