Hockey Dad Reveals New EP titled 'The Clip'

Australian duo Hockey Dad have announced their upcoming EP titled ‘The Clip’ and have released the lead single "All Hat No Cattle."

Their 2024 album ‘Rebuild Repeat’ received substantial praise and marked a significant moment for the group. Childhood friends Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming blend unconventional indie rock riffs with a hint of pop vibrancy.

The new EP ‘The Clip’, set to be released on September 12th, showcases the duo's progression. The lead track "All Hat No Cattle" fuses quirky riffs and sharp twists with lyrical free association, incorporating overheard snippets of dialogue along the way.

      Hockey Dad shares their thoughts...

"It's one of those expressions that prompts you to write a song upon hearing it. I saw a guy pull into the service station driving a Ford truck the size of a school bus, wearing a comically oversized cowboy hat, and brand new jeans and boots fresh out of the box. An older lady muttered, ‘That boy’s all hat and no cattle.’ That was enough for me.

While the lyrics depict this phony cowboy, they could also be a bit of a self-reflection. Over the past five years, I've developed a strong liking for country music. Being from Australia, it feels a bit outside my realm. I’m the fake cowboy who hasn't done a day's work on the land."
