Montreal-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Ouri has announced the release of her new album, ‘Daisy Cutter’, which will come out on October 24th.
‘Daisy Cutter’ follows Ouri's highly praised debut album, ‘Frame of a Fauna’, which was nominated for the Polaris Prize, as well as her collaborative effort ‘Jour 1596’ with Helena Deland under the name Hildegard.
In this new collection of 13 tracks, Ouri creates a realm through bold experimentation with themes of desire, discipline, and intimacy. What started as an uninhibited expression evolved into an exploration of the contradictions of freedom: the tension between safety and risk, commitment and release, control and surrender.
Reflecting on the album's creation, Ouri states: “All these trusting journeys through the dark led me to these 13 songs. ‘Daisy Cutter’ represents music but also embodies a part of me, like a leader of a militia. I initiated a practice that brought this album to existence, and it will continue to revolve even when I step back.”
The album is entirely self-conceptualized, with Ouri handling the engineering, mixing, and mastering herself. Community is a significant focus as Ouri positions herself within a framework that feels simultaneously tangible and imagined.
Surrounding her are friends and collaborators who come together as allies, including Mobilegirl, Oli XL, Bby Eco, Charlotte Day Wilson, Bamo Yendé, Cecil Believe, Duncan Hood, Jonah Yano, Sea Oleena, and Cowboy Lansky.
