UK duo piri & tommy have today unveiled their latest single, ‘someone,’ which serves as the first glimpse of their upcoming EP, ‘magic!’.
Departing from their typical electronic sound, ‘someone’ marks an exciting new direction for piri & tommy. Drawing inspiration from the ‘The English Riviera’-era Metronomy, this funk-influenced track delves into a previously unexplored aspect of their artistry—focusing on more organic tones and traditional pop song structures.
“Stepping away from strictly ‘dance’ music is incredibly exciting for us as well,” piri shares. “Diving into different facets of our musicality has been a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to reveal even more varied sides of piri & tommy. We’re aiming for pop.”
The song was written during the early months of their collaboration in lockdown 2020, starting with a beat and hook that tommy created right after they met. The demo played on repeat in her headphones during her late-night shifts at Asda until piri added her verse to complete the narrative.
Now, four years later, the track is being released, a vibrant, uplifting anthem that highlights their collaboration. The single paves the way for a genre-blurring EP, ‘magic!’, featuring both artists singing together for the first time.
“Yes, we’ve been producing dance music, but ultimately, we’ve been crafting songs!” the duo states. “We’ve always made music we love, and this project finally provided us the opportunity to fully embrace the funk. Creating music together feels magical, living as artists is magical, and meeting through Tinder is the most magical thing of all.”
