Takeda Embraces Personal Transformation in New Album 'In Venus Train'

The Norwich-based group Takeda has released their latest album, ‘In Venus’ Train.’

Originating from the close-knit DIY community in Norwich, the band maintains a strong sense of individuality. This results in a music style that is joyfully unique—sometimes leaning towards folk, other times embracing an alt crunch, all fueled by a desire for connection.

Signed to Drongo Records, the creation of Takeda’s new album commenced over a year ago. Lead songwriter Josh Harrison experienced significant life changes, which deeply influenced the intricacies of the music.

‘In Venus’ Train’ finds a middle ground between the British folk revivalists Fairport Convention and the alt-metal heavyweights Tool, while also carving out its own identity.

Beginning with the bold track ‘London,’ the album often features a poetic touch; there is also a notable musical flexibility, with songs like ‘Sugar Mountain’ and ‘Black Stairs’ appearing to exist in completely different realms, united by an intense meaning.

Discussing the album, lead vocalist Josh Harrison shares,

I penned this album during a time of great transformation in my life, during which I drifted away from my family and friends and began to reconnect with my inner self.

I started to write about characters and stories that initially seemed distant from me. Yet through them, I discovered a means to delve deeper into my own being. Some of these characters were inspired by folklore, others by scripture, and some purely from my imagination. Regardless of their origins, each one carries a certain inner light—one that assisted me in reflecting, processing, and gaining a clearer understanding of the truths I addressed in my writing.

A remarkable new album, ‘In Venus’ Train’ is now available.

Don’t miss Takeda on their tour this month, including a performance at London’s Dublin Castle on September 21st.
