Bob Dylan Adored This Bruce Springsteen Album

      It’s likely not the album you’d anticipate…

Two songwriters captivated by the American spirit, observers have long drawn comparisons between the works of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The Boss himself has spoken highly of Dylan’s artistry, often commending the lyricist for his influence on contemporary music.

Known for his enigmatic nature, Bob Dylan has remarked that there is a Bruce Springsteen album he truly admires – and it may not be the one you expect.

Released in 1982, the home-recorded ‘Nebraska’ represented a significant shift for Bruce Springsteen, who moved away from stadium success to evoke stark images of troubled Americana.

In a 1985 interview, Bob Dylan conveyed his appreciation for the album, saying: “I mean, talk about ‘Nebraska’. People ask me, ‘When are you going to create a ‘Nebraska’ album?’ Well, I love that record, but I feel like I've made five or six ‘Nebraska’ albums, you know?”

That’s high praise from Dylan, but he also makes a valid point – Bruce Springsteen admitted that Dylan’s ‘John Wesley Harding’ influenced the style he adopted for ‘Nebraska’.

Certainly, The Boss has identified ‘John Wesley Harding’ as a significant reference in his creative journey. In a conversation with Stephen Colbert, when asked for his favorite Dylan moment, he commented, “I enjoy all of ‘John Wesley Harding’, so it's tough to choose just one.”

The narrative behind ‘Nebraska’ is as intriguing as the music itself and will be explored in the upcoming film Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere, which will be released in October.
