Lush has revealed their plans to celebrate the 35th anniversary of their compilation ‘Gala’.
The band's music occupies a space between indie, shoegaze, and Britpop while never fully fitting into any of those categories, maintaining a unique and inventive approach. A recent reissue effort allowed the group to revisit their archives, releasing their studio albums back on vinyl.
Now, the early compilation ‘Gala’ will receive a similar treatment. Originally launched in 1990, this compilation brought together their initial trilogy of EPs — ‘Scar’ (1989), ‘Mad Love’ (1990), and ‘Sweetness and Light’ (1990) — arranged in reverse order.
Specifically prepared for the US and Japanese markets, though available to UK fans through import, the album also featured a cover of ABBA’s ‘Hey Hey Helen’ and an extended mix of the track ‘Scarlet’ by Robin Guthrie.
Revamped for its 25th anniversary, ‘Gala’ is set to be released on November 14th, featuring a deluxe box set with 3×12″ and 7″ vinyl, and also available in standard LP, CD, and cassette formats.
The band is currently busy — last year, Lush collaborated with the Criterion Channel to release A Far From Home Movie, a short film created by bassist Phil King that combined Super8 footage filmed by King during the band's tours from 1992 to 1996.
Pre-orders for ‘Gala’ are now open.
