Oakland, CA-based artist and producer Elujay is set to release his new album, ‘A Constant Charade’, on November 21st through drink sum wtr.
‘A Constant Charade’ portrays an artist in transition, examining the different personas we adopt and the performances we enact in our everyday lives. This twelve-track collection sees Elujay blending his distinctive R&B sound with elements of yacht rock, sophisti-pop, dancehall, Al Jeel, Lovers Rock, and the influences of his Trinidadian background.
“I’ve been reflecting on how I feel in the presence of others,” Elujay shares, highlighting the central theme of this new phase. “Whether I’m altering my behavior or presenting myself differently… we all engage in this act, it’s a charade.”
The album includes contributions from several collaborators and co-producers, such as longtime friends and creative associates Nicholas Creus, Martin Rodrigues, Jaden Wiggins, and Ben Yasemsky.
The first glimpse of the LP comes with the release of ‘Rogue Heart’. Drawing inspiration from a visit to Berlin’s electronic underground, the track melds pulsating rhythms with grunge-inspired guitars to create an enveloping soundscape.
“The heart reveals our true selves, especially when we’re open about it,” Elujay explains regarding the single. “This song is a heartfelt and thematic representation of what the album embodies.”
In addition to ‘Rogue Heart’, a music video directed by Ian Jackson and Myles Cutchember accompanies the release.
The visual captures the track's dynamic energy. Elujay notes: “The drums have this unyielding groove that demanded movement. We set up a camera on an electric motorcycle, and as soon as we started recording, I sped off—performing while riding. It felt raw, quick, and precisely what the song needed.”
