She is one of the most innovative and thrilling songwriters in the pop music scene, and her journey is just beginning. Sarah Kinsley gained recognition among casual listeners for her viral TikTok hit “The King,” which was released in 2021. Her solo work evolved into a distinctive style that merges her classical music background and her music theory knowledge from Columbia University into smart pop tunes.

At times, she utilizes a contact microphone, typically used for solid percussive instruments, to record her vocals. For her debut album, she experimented with different sounds, recording everything from glass bowls to an ondes martenot.

She even drew praise from Chappell Roan, who named Sarah Kinsley as one of the artists that “deserve more love and a bigger platform.” Shortly after, Kinsley humorously tweeted about being your favorite artist’s favorite artist’s favorite artist.

This year, Sarah Kinsley was showcased as a featured artist at All Things Go, a festival known for its female-centric lineup, alongside Doechii, Clairo, The Marías, and other acclaimed performers. Her set included the use of a contact microphone and featured a mix of both new and established songs.

Prior to All Things Go, Kinsley released her single “Fleeting” and hinted at her new album's aesthetic, characterized by a catchy drum machine reminiscent of “Running Up That Hill” and her signature synth style.

“’Fleeting’ is my catharsis: An anthem dedicated to the flood of change,” Kinsley expressed in a press release.

“It is my tribute to the fleeting nature of life: who am I if every moment is transient.”

“You can cut your hair all you want,

but it won’t stop the feeling.

      The answer is always,

      the answer is always fleeting.”

Overall, “Fleeting” conveys a strong ’80s influence and feels cathartic, aligning with Kinsley’s original innovative pop sound. During her performance at New York City’s Forest Hills Stadium, she shared that this was her first time singing the single live, adding excitement to an already thrilling experience.

The entire band jammed out during the finale of “The Giver.” Naturally, the audience erupted with cheers as the opening notes of “The King” played. They reveled in “Oh No,” with Kinsley acknowledging the fans dancing in the back.

With the success of “The King” and the endorsement from Chappell Roan, Sarah Kinsley is steadily rising to fame, and this new track might just elevate her to the next level of success.
