Searows will be releasing their new album titled ‘Death In The Business Of Whaling’ on January 23rd.
The songwriter, Alec Duckart, has experienced a gradual rise to success, one that has led him to tour in support of his previous work.
This sense of connection has progressively influenced his creative process, along with an increasing interest in folk music. Searows’ approach to songwriting has evolved, shifting from the literal to the symbolic, which is evident in his latest project.
The upcoming album, ‘Death In The Business Of Whaling’, explores the human condition from often surprising perspectives and is set for release on January 23rd.
“It's something your subconscious grasps before your conscious mind does. It's visceral rather than literal. The connection to our deeper selves—our subconscious and our souls—is a significant theme of the album for me,” he shares. “This record remains very personal to me, but I aim to express my thoughts in a more coded and symbolic way.”
The new single ‘Dearly Missed’ reflects this approach and also draws from the songwriter’s love of cinema, especially horror.
He elaborates, “’Dearly Missed’ is my input into what’s termed the ‘good for her’ horror genre. I’m a big fan of horror for various reasons, particularly for how it tackles societal issues without coming across as overly preachy. The reality for marginalized individuals is increasingly harsh, and witnessing someone relatable on screen who fights back, triumphs, and reclaims their dignity can be a profoundly cathartic and empowering experience.”
“I crafted this song for the part of me that seeks vengeance for all the ways I and other marginalized individuals have been wronged by society. I enjoyed writing this song and exploring a musical style I don’t typically work in, but that I love to listen to, and I’m eagerly anticipating performing it live.”
