“It’s more challenging to earn respect; even before you step in the door, you must exert ten times the effort.”
— Eleanor LivingstonThere’s no doubt that ‘Something To Consume’ signifies a period of growth as well. “We have to acknowledge our progress,” Eleanor states. “We’re only going to keep improving. Do I believe I’ve grown since we began? Absolutely! It's gratifying to hear people recognize the subtle changes and development in our music now; it's truly a wonderful feeling.”With the band selling out tours across Europe despite having little recorded material available, it’s not surprising that record labels were eager to secure the band’s contract prior to their debut album. Ava mentions that choosing to work with Jack White’s Third Man was a straightforward decision. “They were incredibly nice and very supportive of artists. We admire Jack White as well; it was surreal to watch him play guitar from the side of the stage. He’s one of the greatest guitarists ever. He’s amazing, eccentric, kind, and incredibly cool.” She mimics a mocking tone while imitating the other major labels that approached them: “Yeah, we’re the biggest label ever, and you’ll need to create three albums that we’ll own forever and you’ll sell your soul.”Looking ahead, the band aims to leverage their rapidly expanding platform to effect the change they wish to see. “We’re going to face more challenges than some bands,” Eleanor states. “Gaining respect is tougher; even before entering the scene, you have to work significantly harder. We’ll be at festivals, and we receive comments all the time. It's fantastic that we blend heavy and melodic songs; it’s a bit of a defiant statement that we’re here to stay.”Ultimately, they aspire for a Die Spitz show to serve as a safe space where girls can come and express themselves freely. “There aren’t many opportunities for women in hard rock music or similar genres. Additionally, the presence of so many men at the shows can make it uncomfortable for women to participate. I think creating an environment for everyone—especially young women and queer individuals—to express their anger is important.”Whether it’s their videos going viral or touring with popular acts like Viagra Boys, it’s clear that for these close friends, the focus is on enjoying the journey and having fun. “It’s about cherishing every moment because we’re sensitive individuals,” Kate agrees. “We’re all immensely grateful to experience this together since we get along so well: our wildest dreams are truly coming to fruition.”
