Tim Westwood Faces Charges of Rape and Sexual Assault

DJ and broadcaster Tim Westwood has been charged by the Metropolitan Police with several counts of rape and sexual assault.

This information was confirmed recently, with the Crown Prosecution Service approving the charges after an investigation by detectives.

The 68-year-old broadcaster faces four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault related to seven different women.

Tim Westwood has yet to respond to these charges.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy from the Metropolitan Police Service stated, “It requires bravery to come forward with allegations of this nature. The women who have done so have placed their trust in us, and we are committed to providing them with all necessary support.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and we encourage anyone affected by this case or anyone who may have information to reach out to us. A dedicated investigative team can be contacted via email at [email protected]. All reports will be treated with the utmost confidentiality by specialized officers.”

“Support is also available through the independent charity, Rape Crisis, which operates a 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.”

Tim Westwood is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 11th.

A former long-time Radio 1 broadcaster, a report into Tim Westwood’s behavior at the station led the BBC to issue an apology earlier this year for “missed opportunities” in addressing “bullying and misogynistic behavior.”

The BBC board acknowledged that it failed to “take adequate action,” stating: “It is evident that in the past, the BBC has been too siloed and overly deferential to prominent individuals.”

“The board also wishes to take this chance to apologize on behalf of the entire BBC to anyone affected by the findings of the review. Your voices have been heard, and the review's conclusions will enhance efforts to prevent such issues from occurring again.”
