After releasing her impressive album ‘Blood On The Silver Screen’ earlier this year, SASAMI has now unveiled a fresh version of the standout track ‘Just Be Friends’, featuring the beloved indie artist Soccer Mommy. “While working on ‘Blood On the Silver Screen’, I frequently found myself drawn back to country music,” SASAMI explained, offering insights into her vision for the remixed song. “I listened to the likes of Dolly, Johnny, Patsy, Merle, and even much of the modern country that I had once overlooked. Country music often showcases some of the most impactful and poignant examples of great pop songwriting—wit, drama, humor, sadness, and the distinctly human experience of desire.” She concluded that for ‘Just Be Friends’ to be “truly authentic”, she needed to collaborate with someone else—who better than “an actual Southern princess”? As SASAMI puts it: “This new rendition featuring Soccer Mommy, complete with pedal steel, brings to life the country magic I always wished could be part of that song. That’s the beauty of collaboration; all hat and all cattle.” Check out our interview with SASAMI regarding ‘Blood On The Silver Screen’ and listen to the duo's new version of ‘Just Be Friends’ below. This gives us a glimpse of what to anticipate from her upcoming chapter that leans more towards rock.
These new releases collectively serve as “a spiritual successor” to their 2024 album ‘Imaginal Disk’.
She states that this collaborative version "brings the country magic that I have always hoped would be in that song."
