Apologies - COSPLAY

In their two previous albums, Sorry has embraced a complex and suffocating sound that largely stands apart from others. This distinctive approach has allowed them to span a wide musical range when it comes to festival appearances and supporting acts, most notably when they performed alongside Fontaines DC in a series of shows—showing just how expansive the term ‘indie’ can be. Their third album, ‘COSPLAY’, amplifies this broader interpretation of Sorry’s unique style, presenting something significantly more unsettling and eerie—yet undeniably beautiful. While 2020’s breakout album ‘925’ and 2022’s ‘Anywhere But Here’ exuded the ambiance of wild, dark urban nights, this new work explores a more otherworldly realm.

From the very first dissociative spiral of ‘Echoes’, ‘COSPLAY’ is characterized by a dark marching rhythm, cleverly interrupting itself with surprising elements: the slow co-vocals in ‘Life Is This Body’; the mid-2000s indie riffs in ‘Today Might Be The Hit’; and the unexpected R&B sample hidden within ‘Love Posture’. It heavily impresses with the industrial grind of ‘Waxwing’ and the contradictory distortion present in ‘JIVE’. This unsettling essence is further intensified by its unyielding forward momentum, highlighted by Asha Lorenz’s warped vocals that seem compelled to keep moving amid chaos in the album’s final track. As it culminates in its final swirling note, ‘COSPLAY’ emerges as their most expansive and accomplished album yet—unpredictable, disquieting, and all-encompassing.
