The hard-hitting yet deeply emotive duo Your Future Ghost makes their mark with their debut album, Impatient for the Dream. Released independently this summer, this bold collection showcases a range of spirited, raw, and moody pop songs that captivate listeners from the outset. The tracks feature a striking blend of soaring guitar riffs, powerful drum beats, and vibrant synth layers.
“This album is like that friend who’s a bit of a wild card, has some questionable tattoos and ideas, but makes every moment unforgettable,” Kate Voegele of Your Future Ghost shares with Atwood Magazine.

After just two years of music releases, the synth-pop/rock duo is formed by Billboard-charting singer/songwriter and actress Voegele and songwriter, producer, composer, and actor Michael Grubbs. They met while acting on the popular CW series One Tree Hill, where their friendship blossomed alongside a shared creative admiration, leading them to collaborate musically via Zoom during the pandemic. Following months of studio work in Austin, Texas, coupled with lively backyard taco gatherings, Your Future Ghost emerged.
By drawing inspiration from community, their experiences in the spotlight, and the courage to live authentically and unapologetically, Your Future Ghost embodies a compelling duality. They create without hesitation or boundaries, allowing their fiery music to defy conventional molds. Atwood Magazine recently interviewed Voegele about her musical inspirations, the debut album of Your Future Ghost, and more!

**A CONVERSATION WITH YOUR FUTURE GHOST**
Atwood Magazine: Your Future Ghost unites two talented artists, each with impressive creative backgrounds. How did this collaboration develop, and what inspired the sound and vision of the project?
Kate Voegele: Mike and I have been friends for years but only recently began collaborating creatively. The band formed organically after we started writing together over Zoom during the lockdown, quickly realizing that we complemented each other's creative strengths. After a few sessions, we understood that this was more than just passing the time with songwriting—the music developed its own distinctive sound and vibe. We both had this moment after a few months of thinking, “Are we starting a band?” and since then, it has flowed seamlessly, making the creative process incredibly enjoyable.
You describe your latest album Impatient for the Dream as “finding the fun, the party, and the refuge in the chaos of a post-apocalyptic world.” Can you expand on that idea?
Kate Voegele: When we began to clarify our vision for the debut album, we were in a mindset where we wanted to create something that was, above all, undeniably fun. Some of the most successful music in our solo careers has been on the more emotional side, which we wanted to explore in this project but from an entirely different angle. The emotions in this album are present, but they focus less on processing sadness and longing and more on embracing rage and passion, allowing oneself to be a bit unhinged. The world feels wild right now, and we aimed to produce a record that could be enjoyed in your car, in your room, or at your next party—something that feels unapologetically fun yet also mirrors the feeling of screaming into the void, which we all might need at this moment.
The lead single “We've Got Places” revolves around seeking refuge from the chaos and noise of the world. Given the current climate, this piece resonates powerfully. How have you learned to create a safe space amid the turbulence?
Kate Voegele: It’s always a challenge, but for us, the two major factors that help us create a sanctuary amid chaos are art and community. I've always expressed my feelings through music, and doing that together in songwriting and recording has been incredibly cathartic. Our friends, family, and communities provide a sanctuary for us, and we see our fans as a significant part of that too. Coming together to create art, share laughter, and celebrate our quirks with like-minded individuals is, for us, the most powerful way to combat the madness and the noise.

The catchy, upbeat track “I’m Like Money” addresses the current of people wanting a piece of you. How did this unapologetic release come to be?
Kate Voegele: This song originated from a spontaneous conversation we had that quickly turned into the lyrics for the first verse. It was one of those tracks that poured out almost instantly. We’ve both experienced situations where people think
From late-night recording sessions to defiant anthems, Your Future Ghost encapsulates chaos, connection, and catharsis in their dynamic debut album, ‘Impatient for the Dream.’
