Mia Nicolai – coexisting in the realm of the stars

      An eagerly anticipated return...

As an orchestral-like hum draws us further into a shimmering sonic universe, Mia Nicolai’s vocals emerge, building to a self-sustaining crescendo. A singularity standing out in the vastness of discovery, vulnerability, and acceptance.

Mia Nicolai’s new EP, sharing space among the stars, marks her first solo project following Eurovision 2023. Nicolai, together with Dion Cooper, represented The Netherlands in the competition. sharing space among the stars encompasses a wide range of themes: from late-night introspection to the playful essence of self-identity, showcasing the breadth of Nicolai’s world and inviting you to embrace every facet of it.

As a primary reintroduction to the artist, it’s fitting that the project opens with ‘chasing lullabies,’ which speaks directly to her post-Eurovision experiences. Initially conceptualized while couch-surfing in London after the event, the song reflects the pressures of the competition and signifies her return to her own unique sound—on her own terms. The realm of sharing space among the stars serves as a precursor to Nicolai’s universe.

Nicolai conceived this EP through a nomadic perspective, developing it through her experiences in Norway and London, and later expanding the project in LA with Vetle Junker (AURORA), Ella Vos, and Tommy English via Superglue Records. Representing a reconnection with her inner child realized in her twenties, sharing space among the stars captures the upbeat whimsy in ‘nothing compares to this feeling’ and ‘spend the night,’ while unraveling her unfiltered vulnerability in ‘delicate heart’—highlighting the confessional strength of her vocals.

The final titular track, ‘sharing space among the stars,’ wraps up Nicolai’s world, but only temporarily. Nicolai is genuinely finding her place among the stars, and this EP is just the beginning.
